Donald Trump arrived in Washington on Saturday evening to celebrate his triumphant return to power ahead of his second inauguration.

The former president, four years after leaving under the shadow of the Capitol attack, was joined by family, supporters, and political allies at a festive gathering.

The celebration, held at Trump National Golf Club in Sterling, Virginia, included a fireworks display and marked the beginning of the inaugural events. “I think we made the right decision. We’ll be very comfortable now,” Trump told NBC News, referring to his decision to move most of Monday’s outdoor inaugural events indoors due to an expected blast of Arctic air.

Trump’s motorcade was greeted by cheering supporters chanting “Trump!” and “USA, USA!” as it neared the golf club, located about 30 miles from the nation’s capital.

Meanwhile, on Pennsylvania Avenue, crews were dismantling bleachers initially set up for outdoor inauguration viewing stands. This year’s ceremony will be the first since President Ronald Reagan’s second term in 1985 to be moved indoors due to severe weather.

Despite the frigid forecast, protesters gathered in the city early Saturday. Melody Hamoud, a Washington resident, was among those demonstrating. “I just didn’t want to sit home and fret in front of the TV,” she said. “I wanted to feel like our movement still has energy and be around others who felt the same.”
