Iraq ranks 12th in the Arab world and 169th in the world in terms of press freedom, according to the Strategic Center for Human Rights.
Fadel al-Gharawi, head of the center, said in a statement that hundreds of violations against journalists have been recorded in the past three years.
In 2024, Iraq will rank 169th in the world and 12th out of 180 countries in the Arab world in terms of press freedom.
“The violations ranged from arbitrary evictions, trials, intimidation, preventing photography, breaking equipment and many others.
The head of the Strategic Center for Human Rights called on the government to improve the situation of the press, ensure freedom of the press and protect journalists on the occasion of the National Press Freedom Day.
Meanwhile, Iraqi Prime Minister Mohammed Shia Sudani congratulated journalists on the 155th anniversary of the day and reaffirmed his support for the role of journalism.
