Iranian gas supplies to Iraq have completely stopped in recent days, against the backdrop of the start of maintenance work on the gas pipeline from the Iranian side.

Today, Sunday, January 29, 2023, the Iraqi Ministry of Electricity announced that gas supplies coming from Iran will be cut off for 12 days from power production stations, due to maintenance work for gas transmission pipes from the Iranian side, according to the ministry's statement on Facebook.

The ministry explained that the interruption of Iranian gas supplies to Iraq caused the loss of about 7,500 megawatts of electricity supply to the capital Baghdad, the central regions and the Middle Euphrates, and led to a significant limitation of production loads of electricity, according to what was seen by the specialized energy platform.

Iraqi Electricity Minister Ziad Ali Fadel said negotiations are underway with Saudi Arabia, Turkey, Jordan and the Gulf Cooperation Council (GCC) countries on achieving electricity interconnection with them, pointing to significant progress in these negotiations.
